How To Use The TriPad

The Primacoustic TriPad provides effective isolation of structure-borne vibration from coupling through the mic stand into the microphone.

This helps eliminate low frequency noise such as foot-steps, street noise, and resonance from nearby amplifiers or drums from entering the microphone. This lets you record at full bandwidth without having to limit the low-end frequency response with an EQ or high-pass filter.

Using the TriPad is easy: Simply slip each Tripad Isolator over the legs of your tripod mic stand. Position the mic stands rubber foot towards the angled cut-off section of the TriPad and you are set to go. Once applied, the TriPad holds in place allowing the stand to be lifted and moved without repositioning.

Studio Vocals

In the studio, Tripads help eliminate the low frequency rumble from toe tapping, street traffic and HVAC by decoupling the mic stand from the floor. The vibrations from these sources are transmitted via the building structure and passed along through the mic stand. TriPad prevents these vibration from reaching the mic capsule and will improve the performance of elastic shock mounts as well.

Hollow stages and drum risers are excellent resonators that pass LF rumble into the drum mic. This causes a softening of the transients attacks and makes the drum mix sound muddy and undefined. TriPad provides more isolation between drum mics and better transient attacks by reducing the inter-instrument vibrations picked up through the mic stands. With TriPads installed drum sounds are sharper and need less low frequency filtering giving you a more true sound to work with.

Condenser Instrument Microphones

TriPad provides an extra level of isolation from vibration for condenser mics, even if they already have a shock mount clip. Engineers often roll off the low end to prevent the mic from picking up low frequency rumble. Rolling off the low end removes the rumble from the mic signal but it also removes low end from the instrument your trying to pick up. Tripad allow the engineer to remove the LF rumble without resorting to equalization.
