  Colors and Painting
We are often asked if we can supply alternate colors or if one can paint Primafoam panels. The answers are: no we do not offer color choices, only dark charcoal; and yes, you can paint the foam.

The reason we only offer dark charcoal is due to color fading. During the manufacturing process, we use a carbon-based chemical to attain the dark charcoal color. Carbon naturally inhibits UV and oxidization from attacking the ‘plastic’ thus resulting in less fading and degradation over time. This is the same reason that outside telephone wires are always black. Colored foam is almost impossible to color match and will fade much more quickly. Charcoal grey has become the standard in acoustic treatment and for the most part, this dark color will suit most interior designs.

For those that would like to paint Primafoam, we recommend using a water-based paint and applying it using an airless sprayer. Four light dustings in each north, south, east and west directions will produce a good solid color without plugging the open cells. This will have a very slight effect of increasing the reflections at very high frequencies while increasing the bass absorption.
